TVBC Mite Busters!!!

Do you love honeybees and hate mites?! So do we! Join the Treasure Valley Beekeepers Club in taking a stand against mites this year! We call ourselves the TVBC Mite Busters and we are ready to conquer some mites!  Details below.

​Requirements

  • For all TVBC club members current with dues as of August 1, 2019
  • At the October meeting submit a form (to bee provided) showing a mite check in August, September, and October including for each month:
    • How many hives do you have?
    • How many hives did you check?
    • Date
    • Has this hive been treated prior to August?
    • Mite Count
    • Treatment?
    • If you treated did you lose a queen?
  • Send photos of your journey (mites, mite tests and mite treatments) to club

Rewards

  • Every entry will receive a Mite Busters 2019 t-shirt
  • Every entry will be entered into drawing for
    • 1 new hive and 1 new nuc from Mike Morrison
    • $100 Gift Certificate for Chandlers
With proof you submitted your September results for the Pollinator Partnership "Mite-A-Thon" September 7-14
  • Entered into a drawing for $50 in Mite Treatments for 2020 (Thymol and OA)
After the Bee Informed Partnership survey is published and you provide proof you completed the survey
  • Entered into a drawing for $50 in Mite Treatments (Thymol and OA)

  • 33 beekeepers participated
  • 118 out of 145 total hives tested
  • 106 hives treated
  • 43% were treated prior to August
  • 9 queens reported as lost
  • Highest mite count – 56%
  • Number of hives with no treatment - 12
