The Science of BioDynamics.
These days conventional beekeeping hangs on the skeletal remains of science credited to Rev. LL Langstroth - science that dates back 165 years. Back before neonicotinoids, before cell phones and before Big Pharma. What was thought to be science back in the 1860's has so outlived its useful life.
Time to Move On!
Today, keeping healthy bees is much easier, thanks to the discoveries and teachings of Dr. Ruldolf Steiner. Dr. Steiner channeled the unconscious wisdom contained in the beehive — the hive is in reality permeated by love — and how this relates to the human experiences of health, civilization, and the cosmos is amply described in this unique book, the Nine Lectures on Bees.
Nine of fifteen lectures given by Dr. Rudolf Steiner to the workmen at the Goetheanum, Dornach, Switzerland in 1923. They are part of the lecture series entitled, The Functioning of Spirit in Nature and in Man. The Being of Bees. Published in German as, Mensch und Welt. Das Wirken des Geistes in der Natur. Ueber das Wesen der BieneN. Vortraege fuer die Arbeiter am Goetheanumbau. They are presented here with the kind permission of the Dr. Rudolf Steiner Nachlassverwaltung, Dornach, Switzerland.
Today, Dr. Steiner's teachings have been modernized by Dr. David Heaf, who has been intensely practicing beekeeping for over a decade. Keeping bees in a more natural way is growing in popularity throughout the world. Older hive designs are being reappraised, and methods that have been used for over a century are being questioned. Dr. Heaf is a prominent leader in the surging drive to raise sustainable bees and create a more bee-friendly natural beekeeping experience. Explore his voluminous scientific writings here.
The People's Hive of Dr. Abbé Émile Warré (1867-1951) is one of the older designs that beekeepers find particularly attractive. Dr. Warre's Beekeeping for All is credited with creating the renaissance in beekeeping that has produced a flood of beginners, many of whom will be attracted to the more natural way of keeping bees described in his wonderful treatment of Natural Beekeeping. Several commercial honey producers have already adapted it to fit their needs. Warré's one-size box with top-bars, natural comb and insulating quilt, create ideal conditions for colony vitality and survival, as well as reducing consumption of honey stores in winter. The hive is now used worldwide in climates ranging from the tropics to the taïga.
Faced with the continual bombardment of unscrupulous salesmen and saleswomen that want nothing more than to line their pockets with our hard earned gains, the Treasure Valley Certified Organic, Natural, GMO-Free, Beekeepers Club will from this time forward be dedicated to sustainable, chemical free, non-GMO beekeeping. Come join us on the first Friday of every month for our regular meetings. We'll meet this Friday at the usual place and @ 7 pm. Hope to see you there!
